The Tri-County Workforce Investment Board, Inc. is giving an Employer of the Year Award in Armstrong, Butler, and Indiana Counties for employers who have significantly contributed to the workforce development system within the region. This award highlights the collaboration of business and workforce development in the three counties. All three companies have significantly contributed to building a skilled workforce.

Armstrong County Employer of the Year – Kensington HPP, Inc.

Kensington HPP, Inc. is a vinyl replacement window manufacturer specializing in high performance residential windows. Kensington HPP, Inc. prides itself as being the only vinyl window manufacturer of Heat Mirror glass technology in North America. Kensington HPP, Inc. currently is lucky enough to employ 75 hardworking local employees. The Kensington name has been a pillar of the Armstrong County business and manufacturing community for over 40 years. Kensington High Performance Products, Inc. distributes windows to 30 states through wholesale distribution and direct dealerships. Kensington HPP, Inc. is a market leader in high performance vinyl windows industry and is recognized as such by having its products listed in the Energy Star Most Efficient Program, with a full suite of residential vinyl window products.

Kensington Windows was founded in 1971 as an aluminum window manufacturer and converted to vinyl windows in 1977. In 2009, Serious Energy purchased the assets associated with Kensington Windows out of bankruptcy. In 2013, Mr. Chuck Wetmore and Mr. John Barker, both long term employees of Kensington Windows, purchased the business from Serious Energy. Under their ownership, operations were streamlined which led to an increase in sales and the creation of new jobs.

Kensington HPP, Inc. has served on the Tri-County Workforce Investment Board since 2009 and has dedicated significant amounts of time toward improving and streamlining workforce development programs for
not only the company, but for other businesses located in Armstrong, Butler and Indiana counties. Kensington HPP, Inc. has been a strong supporter of the Armstrong County Manufacturing Consortium and is always willing to step up to work with training needs, scoring training proposals, and providing support to the consortium. In addition, Kensington HPP, Inc. supports youth pipeline development and the Tri-County Business-Education Partnership by the company’s encouragement to local high school students to visit and tour businesses representing a variety of industries, including IT, healthcare and manufacturing. In addition, Kensington HPP, Inc. supports the PA CareerLink® JobGateway® system and is a registered user. Finally, Kensington HPP, Inc.’s always willing to jump into a project when needed such as working with the manufacturing pre-apprenticeship program. Kensington HPP’s commitment to the local workforce system, the manufacturing consortium, and youth pipeline development is commendable. Kensington HPP’s leadership and volunteerism have been and will continue to be instrumental to the economic and workforce development initiatives in Armstrong County as well as the Tri-County area.
